Don't Worry, B-12

Is there a cure for seasonal allergies? (Men's Journal)

March 2006

KEYWORDS: Health

Allergies are stubborn. For years, sufferers in search of relief have had to choose between treatments with side effects, including drowsiness, dry mouth, addiction, anxiety, headache, nosebleeds and sore throat. But in a recent drug trial, allergy sufferers taking enormous doses of Vitamin B-12 reported substantial relief without any of the nasty side effects.

The doses are large -- 2500 times the recommended daily allowance. Even so, B-12 is not a drug and doesn't act like one. It is eminently safe; you can't get hooked on B-12. Most remarkably, the vitamin's effect on allergy symptoms seems to last longer than that of any drug currently on the market.
