In the next decade, there will be 1.5 million teaching vacancies in the United States, according to the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. Millions of baby boomers are retiring from the profession, and a staggering 50 percent of new teachers leave the field within their first five years --the equivalent of nearly a thousand teachers, both novice and seasoned, calling it quits every day.
